DYS October 2020 Updates

Hello DYS Families,

I hope that everyone is staying safe in this crazy time.  I want to thank everyone for participating in DYS this Fall.  The board has worked countless hours to make this fall season happen for the players.  Our goals are to get the kids out playing soccer, having fun, and socializing in as safe a way as possible.  As we are progressing into week 4 of Fall Soccer, I want to make sure that everyone is staying vigilant, following all Safety Protocols as outlined at the start of the season to include but not limited to:

  • Continue to wear masks at all times for players (must be ear loops), referees, coaches, and spectators
  • Only one spectator per event (besides siblings)
  • Let the coaches know of any symptoms per CDC guidelines

THANK YOU to all the volunteer coaches for making sure all protocols are followed and for your dedication to the team.  There are a lot of happy parents and players (under those masks)!

This is the second year for SafeSport-  DYS is required by Federal law to have all coaches and asst coaches take a 1 hour online Safe Sport course.  This is not only a law for ALL sports organizations, it is in the best interest of the children that our coaches take this course.  If anyone has questions about this subject, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.  It is all about the safety of the players.

DYS Yearly Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1st @ 7:30PM.  As of now, location is Endicott Estate (if in person) or virtual if needed.  Please watch www.dedhamsoccer.com and our FB page for updates to this.  During this meeting, we elect the officers as well as the Directors and Board Members for 2021.  If you would you like to help DYS, Please consider joining the board.  All DYS families are invited to attend and we will follow all guidelines as needed.  For more information see our website.  Please let me know if you are attending

DYS is taking the health and safety of our players and families very seriously.  See below Guidelines for your review.  These have been approved by the Dedham Board of Health.

Dedham Youth Soccer (DYS)- Soccer Health Guidelines

DYS will be following the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) “Return to Soccer Guidelines-effective 8/17/2020” Below are some highlights but full guidance for ALL players regardless of age can be found at the link here: https://www.mayouthsoccer.org/assets/61/6/return_to_soccer_activities_phase_3_step_1_-_august_151.pdf

The following procedures should remain in place for all participants, coaches, and spectators:

  4. Upon arrival to training (practices, games, meetings), coaches or staff should ask each athlete if they are experiencing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. If the athlete has any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 they should be sent home and instructed to contact their healthcare provider. They will not be allowed to return to training (practices, games, meetings) until they are cleared by a healthcare provider. A doctor’s note must be provided.

Rule/Play Modifications to Comply with the Guidance:

    • Must put part of the ball on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline
    • The ball may not be kicked directly into the opponent’s penalty area.
    • All opponents must stand at least 10 yards (8 yards for small sided) from the point on the touchline where the Kick-in is to be taken.
    • IFAB Law 15 Offences and Sanctions for Throw-ins apply to Kick-ins.
    • Corner Kicks as defined by IFAB Law 17 are suspended and to be replaced by a Corner Kick-in. The modifications for the procedure for a Corner Kick-in are:
    • The ball may not be kicked directly into the opponent’s penalty area.
    • Opponents must remain at least 10 yds (8 yards for small sided) from the corner arc until the ball is in play

  • The use of a Dropped Ball as a restart is suspended. To replace this procedure, an Indirect Free Kick will be awarded to the team whom the referee deemed to be in possession when the referee stops play.

Competition:

  1. Practices: No more than 25 players on any surface/playing area for team/group sports. To ensure group separation, separate groups must be spaced at least 14 feet apart while sharing a single playing surface, court or field. If this is not followed, we will have to ask those that do not follow to leave or if systemic might not allow spectators at all.  DYS may be fined or ask to cease all operations if this continues.
  2. No more than 50 people excluding players, coaches, referees, or facility/activity workers in the aggregate in, on, or surrounding any surface/playing area, provided that there is adequate space for all players, coaches, referees, facility/activity workers and spectators to maintain at least six feet social distancing, recognizing that for some moderate and high risk sports intermittent and limited contact may occur for players If this is not followed, we will have to ask those that do not follow to leave or if systemic might not allow spectators at all.  DYS may be fined or ask to cease all operations if this continues.
  3. During this current COVID-19 Pandemic state of emergency as proclaimed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Mass Youth Soccer (MYS) requires all member organizations to limit the number of spectators at all sanctioned soccer activities to One (1) per player. Spectators are defined as a Parent, Legal Guardian or Chaperone. If this is not followed, we will have to ask those that do not follow to leave or if systemic might not allow spectators at all.  DYS may be fined or ask to cease all operations if this continues.
  4. Spectators must follow all Mass Youth Soccer Return to Soccer Activities Guidelines.
    • Sanctioned Soccer Activities: Includes, but is not limited to all games (of all types), practices, clinics, training, and in-person meetings.
    • Spectators must wear facial coverings and maintain six feet of social distance at all times.
    • Coaches, staff, referees and other officials are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distance of 6 feet at all times
  5. Competition schedules with a 20 minute buffer to prevent the overlap of participants and to allow for disinfection of equipment and cleaning of commonly touched surfaces, if necessary.
  6. Sportsmanship should continue in a touchless manner- no handshakes/slaps/fist bump.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND FACIAL COVERINGS FOR ALL SPORTS

While limiting proximity of participants is the first line of defense to reduce the risk of transmission Facility Operators and Activity Organizers must require facial coverings to be worn by all participants except:

  • During high intensity aerobic or anaerobic activities.
  • When distancing of 6 feet or more is possible between participants whenever feasible; or
  • For individuals that are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition or disability.

Otherwise, Activity Organizers must require facial coverings to be worn while engaged in an activity wherever possible. Some sports by their nature involve intense aerobic activity throughout play. For these sports it is required that players use facial coverings when possible, take frequent breaks when they are out of proximity to other players using caution to avoid touching the front or inside of the face covering by using the ear loops to remove and replace. For example: soccer players should have facial coverings (that have earloops) with them at all times and where possible play with the facial covering on, removing it for long runs down the field, for plays without close contact, and in the goal. Participants for all sports must wear facial coverings while on the sidelines at ALL times and in any huddles or time-outs.

During the time off, DYS has been working with town officials to see when, where, and how we can start soccer back up again while maintaining all state and town guidelines of safety for all who participate.

Keep up to date on all things DYS on our Facebook page where we will be communicating registration info, cool events hosted by the New England Revolution, as well as skills and drills info.

Incoming 3rd grade

The DYS board has implemented the following changes for incoming 3rd grade for the FALL 2020 season:

  • All incoming 3rd grade boys and girls players will remain in the Dedham town program for the fall season of development.
  • DYS will hold tryouts during the fall season for all players progression into the BAYS TRAVEL SOCCER LEAGUE in the spring 2021 season. (BAYS requires grade 3 players to play at their own grade level and cannot play up with no exceptions).
  • This will help facilitate growth as a player, more time with Dedham community, and making sure that the teams are placed accurately for the transition to the travel program.
  • The fall season will be planned as an all 3rd grade boys and girls leagues as long as there are the appropriate number of players registered.
