SideLine Swap is back at Dicks' Dedham store this weekend, July 28-30, and Aug. 11-13 for a sports gear trade-in event!  It’s a great opportunity to bring all of your gently-used, unwanted sports gear into the store where you will receive a Dick’s e-gift card equal to the trade-in value of your used gear.  Be sure to pass the word along to your friends and teammates

Congratulations to the 2023 Dedham Youth Soccer Scholarship recipients.

DYS J.H. RUMPP $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP:

Noah Young was a 3 year varsity player who achieved tri valley all-star his Jr. & Sr.

Years.  He was also Team captain his junior and senior year.  Noah anchored one of the best defenses in league history.   Off the field Noah was committed to DYS.  He helped coach a travel

Team for 3 years and was very active in our mini kickers program.  He also helped staff our Rustcraft concession stand the last two years.

Michael McDonough was a 2 year starter as goalie and elected captain his senior year.  Michael was a unanimous MVP of our team and our league as well as a unanimous Eastern Mass Allstar, a Boston Globe All scholastic and an Allstate player.  He recorded 16 shutouts his senior year.  Off the field Mike was a field manager, referee and was always around with DYS players.

DYS $500 SCHOLARSHIP:

Lily Roslonek was a 4-year varsity starter playing the forward or midfield position. In her senior year, Lily was captain, voted team MVP, Tri-Valley League MVP and made the All-State team. Lily was a two-time first team E-Mass all-star, two-time first team Tri-Valley League all-star, led Dedham High to two Tri-Valley League Championships and two State Championship games. She scored 30 points in both her junior and senior years. In the fall, Lily will be playing Division 1 soccer at Stonehill College.

Devan O’Connell was a 4-year starter on varsity. She was a senior captain, first team Tri-Valley League all-star, second team E-Mass all-star and the leader of the defense (which gave up less than 10 goals each of the last two championship seasons). Devan’s great defensive play was one of the main reasons we had an undefeated championship team (only the second undefeated girls’ soccer team in Dedham High history). She played in two State Championship games. Devan was the recipient of the Coaches Award.

Ryan Benoit was a two year starter who was a tri valley league all star his senior year.  What he lacked in size he made up for it with toughness, smarts, skill and heart.  Off the field Ryan worked with the Revs unified soccer program.  He also refereed and coached for DYS.  A quality young man.

  • DYS is looking for incoming varsity players that would like to be Volunteer Assistant Coaches for travel teams this fall.  Please email me directly with interest and see link at the bottom.  This past season we had great success as both the players and coached benefited!

 Registration for FALL 2023 Season

  • Incoming Grades 3 thru 8- DYS tryouts were held in May for the Fall 2023 TRAVEL season and were very well attended.  The players worked very hard!  If you could NOT attend, you will still be able to play in the fall if registered by the deadline.
  • The number of teams and the size of teams are based on number of registered players and league rules. Teams may be combined at grade level when conditions require.
  • Once Registration closed, DYS started building teams based on Tryouts/ Coaches Evaluations and meet with the coaches to review/verify placements as a group.
  • Once players are placed on teams, the coaching staff will be chosen.  In the rare case there are conflicts with multiple coaches for the same team and it cannot be worked out, then a DYS committee will evaluate each candidate to find the most appropriate coaching staff or find alternate coaches.
  • Coaches and teams should be notified prior to August 5th
  • Travel Uniforms need to be ordered by August 6th.  incoming 3rd grade Travel players as well as players that may need a new size.  Please contact [email protected] for your player number if you do not have one already from previous travel seasons.

  • Incoming Grades K thru 2nd (and some 3rd graders): DYS has been posting on FB and an email blast went out recently that registration is open and the Deadline is Today, July 25th.  After this date, you will be placed on a waitlist, a late fee will apply, and you are NOT guaranteed a slot (DYS will try to fit in as many players as we can based on player count)
  • **NOTE** Players may be moved between seasons as we need to make sure that there are balanced skill levels for each team.  We want to make sure that all players are learning soccer AND having FUN.  Unbalanced scores every week do not help anyone.
  • All players will receive a soccer jersey from their coach prior to the first game of the season or at the first game
  • Kickers (Pre-K) Registrations will open on August 1st and will be limited to first come, for each time slot up to 24 players per session.  All players will receive a soccer ball and jersey on the first day of sessions

Dedham Youth Soccer (DYS)- Player and Team Selection Guidelines

Dedham Youth Soccer (DYS)- Player and Team Selection Guidelines

  • As part of our Player and Coach Development Program, Dedham Youth Soccer (DYS) is using the following processes by which Travel Teams will be constructed each season.  DYS’s goal is for the player to develop in the most suitable environment to create a positive experience while learning to enjoy the game of soccer.
  • The number of teams and the size of teams are based on the number of registered players and league rules. Teams may be combined at grade level when conditions require. Additional evaluations may be used in determining appropriate level of play if needed.

In order to provide multiple data points to assist in the evaluation and placement of players, DYS will collect the following information during each season:

    1. Input from current coaches.  Each current Grade 2 through Grade 8 coaching staff is required to provide an assessment of the players on his/her team related to soccer skill, competency, athleticism, and overall performance.  Other information/comments will be included in this evaluation (e.g., attendance, attitude, strengths).
    2. Input from the DYS Clinicians:  The DYS Clinicians perform skill training with our current Grade 2 through Grade 5 players during the season.  At the conclusion of each season, the Clinicians provide DYS with assessments of the players from a skill perspective.
    3. Tryouts for Incoming 3rd thru 8th Grade Players.  DYS holds tryouts during the spring for players who will be incoming 3rd thru 8th grade for the fall season.  The tryouts are conducted by professional Non-DYS affiliated evaluators.  The purpose of tryouts is to get an independent evaluation of the players at different levels of play 7v7, 9v9, 11v11.  The Tryouts evaluate the player’s soccer skills and team play.  The format is a blend of skills (passing, dribbling, striking) and mini-games. These evaluations will be combined with the Coach’s evaluation of the players to determine the best, most suitable competition level for each child.

Once this information has been collected, DYS works with our Directors and Travel Coaches (Head coach and assistant coaches) to review all pieces of evaluation data and appropriately place players on rosters for each Travel (grades 3 thru 8) season.

Coach Selection Process

In accordance with the Dedham Youth Soccer Curriculum, DYS is intent on improving the overall level of coaching in the Program through education, mentoring, and evaluation.  As a Board, we offer inhouse coaching education, fund State licensing courses for all DYS coaches, and offer mentoring for coaches that seek

assistance.  Coaches are not picked for teams until AFTER the players have been selected for a team.  If multiple coaches apply for a head or assistant coach position and cannot be worked out among the coaches, DYS will appoint a committee to conduct interviews of applicants. This committee will then make decisions on who will be selected as Head coach and assistant coaches.  All coaches need to pass multiple background checks conducted by Mass Youth Soccer as well as complete Safesport and Concussion Training, as guided, prior to any on or off field interactions with players.

Note: DYS reserves the right to make changes as needed
